Parents of Plative
At Plative we are so proud to work with so many amazing parents. Not only are we honored to highlight the work these individuals do for Plative, but we are also so proud to celebrate their amazing work as parents. Three parents who we believe deserve a special highlight are Jacob Posluns, Gayathri Raman and Nupur Dussa. We are so happy to share some tips, tricks, and stories from these amazing parents of Plative.
While talking with each of these parents of Plative, we asked 4 questions.
- How have you balanced working from home while taking care of your kids?
- What challenges have you faced and how are you working to overcome them?
- How has Plative supported you in parenting while working in a remote environment?
- What are some tips you’d like to share with other parents or parents-to-be who are in a similar situation?
Jacob Posluns:
My name is Jacob Posluns, and I am a Salesforce Project Manager focusing on the financial sector. This has been a blast for me as I started our my career in finance, I love the opportunity to work closely with our clients in financial services.
How have you balanced working from home while taking care of your kids?
Having 2 kids with a third on the way makes our schedules extremely busy. Prior to working at Plative, I was traveling to eastern Canada every week – this made work life balance nearly impossible. Plative has supported us in many different ways to help us solve that problem.
Here are some of the ways we balance working from home while taking care of kids
- Scheduling kids activities / appointments around the workday allows us to be extremely efficient (as we no longer have to commute to work).
- As working from home can easily extend past normal working hours – we make a conscious effort to turn off all technology (phones, laptops and TV) from the time that the kids come home, until they go to bed. This allows everyone to enjoy being together for the short period of time we have together in the evening.
What challenges have you faced and how are you working to overcome them?
As a family with 2 working parents, we face many common daily challenges that all households have to manage. These generally include completing our daily chores and attempting to take care of the kids when they are not in school.
To complete daily chores effectively – we look for inexpensive ways to outsource when possible. Specifically: Ordering groceries online, getting takeout once a week, and getting cleaning help 2 or 3 times a month. While these are relatively small items, they free up a lot of time when trying to keep the house in order.
The more complicated challenge is taking care of the kids when school is closed. For this, my wife and I alternate who will be taking off work. While we are with them, we split our time into (i) play time together (ii) quiet play (iii) nap time. This allows us to give our attention to the little ones while still working through some of the required daily deliverables. Plative is always extremely supportive and understanding when we need some extra time to focus on the family.
How has Plative supported you in parenting while working in a remote environment?
The flexibility that Plative offers to control your own calendar is really what allows us to work hard and support our family in the process. Our schedule (especially with kids), often requires us to be flexible for things like: picking kids up from school, dropping off forgotten lunches and cleaning soiled sheets (which happens a bit too often). Everyone is always happy to lend a hand when duty calls.
What are some tips you’d like to share with other parents or parents-to-be who are in a similar situation?
- Shared family google calendars and To-Do lists (so there are no surprises..).
- Weekly Date Nights (w/o the kids) – having a scheduled time with your spouse is the best way to stay sane.
- Share the household work! With 2 working parents its important to coordinate all of the chores – knowing who is responsible for which chore is critical (this increases accountability and decreases blame).
These are a just some of the ways our family stays (slightly) above water – we wouldn’t be able to do it without Plative, we hope they were helpful!
Gayathri Raman:
Hi, My name is Gayathri Raman! My role at Plative is Senior Salesforce Business Analyst and I work with different clients to configure and enhance their existing business processes on Salesforce.
We are based out of Cambridge, Ontario and we have a daughter who is 3 years old and both my husband and I are working from home. Both our families live in India.
How have you balanced working from home while taking care of your kids?
We send our daughter to daycare while we work and many of the times finish off any pending work after she sleeps at night. We ensure we spend quality time once she is back from day care after work hours. The flexibility of working from home is very helpful here. At times, when our daughter does not feel well or is bored at home, we give her activities while we attend our work meetings. We’re able to keep her engaged because we work from home.
What challenges have you faced and how are you working to overcome them?
One of the main challenges of sending kids to day care is they get sick more often so juggling between work and doctor appointments has been tough. We usually put on extra hours after she sleeps to get the work done.
How has Plative supported you in parenting while working in a remote environment?
Plative has supported us by giving us 4 weeks vacation and also the ability to block our calendars other than the client meetings to work different hours and also be able to care for the kids.
What are some tips you’d like to share with other parents or parents-to-be who are in a similar situation?
One piece of advice is please don’t beat yourself up when you are not able to give enough time to kids between work during certain days. Try to balance as much as you can by setting a routine and schedule. This will give you time to get work done, log off from work, and spend time with your kids daily”
Nupur Dussa:
- Role at Plative- I have been working as a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist with Plative for the past year and am looking forward to growing with the company! I love how my job allows me to connect to and interact with different people on a daily basis.
- Family – We are a family of four. It’s me, my husband, my kiddo, and my mother-in-law. We all work together to make sure everything runs smoothly in the house.
