Meet Mia, Salesforce Consultant at Plative
Fun Facts:
- For simplicity’s sake when anyone asks about my background I always just say I’m originally from Barbados, but my family has roots all over the Caribbean from Curacoa, St Kitts, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines.
- I love to dance in different styles, primarily street jazz but am going to definitely branch out and start training in the style of K-POP, soca, and eventually contemporary.
- I love my pop culture references and have a low key addiction to reality television — right now I am currently obsessed with an iconic masterpiece, also known as Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
Explain your role at Plative!
Currently, I’m a Salesforce Consultant and when I first joined the company I was a Senior Business Analyst. I would say I am a wearer of many hats and what I love the most is that on any given day I get to play different roles, whether it’s a would-be solution architect, project manager, problem solver, and point and click “admin”. Generally speaking, I help companies implement or enhance their use of Salesforce, and shepherd customers through their implementation journey by discussing options, making recommendations, researching their business model, and executing the implementation.
Why did you choose to work for Plative?
Around the same time I was considering working for Plative I had made a big leap of faith in my life and decided to move from Vancouver (where I had lived basically all my life) to Toronto and the more I learned about the company and began connecting with people here, it was just undeniable to me that this was where I was supposed to be. In those beginning conversations with Plative it was crystal clear to me that this was a place where I could grow and continue to elevate, and that the company is filled with brilliant and creative people. The firms approach to management consulting is unique, and unlike other companies, I would say the organization continually demonstrates that they live by their core values, which are authentic and not just marketing fodder.
What would you do if you didn’t choose Salesforce Consulting as a career path?
This is a tough one. I would say one day if I was fabulously wealthy I would absolutely love to be a venture capitalist and or angel investor!
What is the coolest thing you’re working on right now at work?
Outside of work, I am definitely working super hard to learn a second language, Italian!
What is your favorite Salesforce Plush Doll Character and why?
Initially, I would have said 1000% that I choose the lovely Appy, who is a boss trailblazer whose mantra is that almost any problem can be solved with the AppExchange, but I’m leaning towards Cloudy because I think her message is important: “She brings out the best in everyone and encourages you to tap into your own unlimited potential”. Plus, Cloudy is the G.O.A.T!
Who are you sitting closest to, and what is the best quality about that person?
I sit next to Rob and the guy is all kinds of awesome. He has so much experience in the consulting space and is really passionate about what he does which I think is infectious in the best possible way.
If you could go back to your first day, what advice would you give yourself?
Embrace the journey and keep being hungry to learn, grow and listen.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with all that extra time?
Um, a whole lot of things! Train in classical ballet technique, paint, learn Italian, continue to work towards Salesforce certifications, maybe take up playing an instrument?
If you could have the answer to any question, what would it be?
Not to be completely existential but, what is the meaning of life?
What would you tell someone who’s thinking of applying for a job here?
If you are a candidate that’s creative, open-minded, you legitimately love solving problems, Plative is definitely the place for you. Probably the thing I love the most is the genuine encouragement that I’ve noticed is given and received within this firm and that’s part of the reason I love coming into work every day and feel like I have something to look forward to.
What is your most unusual talent?
Unsure if this qualifies as a talent, but I rarely forget a face after I’ve met someone, and many years ago I used to be weirdly good at hoola hooping for extended periods of time.
What are you going to do if the Raptors win the NBA Finals?
If they go all the way, I think I’d want to make a Raptors themed costume for the parade — think early Caribbana complete with the party fete and dancing in the streets!
